The new Maynard Wing
The striking new Maynard Building is the latest redevelopment for Glenview on its Windsor Street site. Maynard is a 45-bed development accommodating high care nursing residents with two additional specialist suites for people requiring palliative care.
The building replaces three old wings of Glenview which were built in the 1950s and had definitely past their best years.
Maynard has been designed to look as little like a traditional nursing home as possible while offering staff the latest in technology and working conditions. The architects, BPSM, and Fairbrothers Construction have achieved their brief spectacularly.
At $4.6million, Maynard is the largest building project ever undertaken at Glenview.
It is a spacious three-storey building with beautiful design features including floor to ceiling glass in many of the lounge and dining areas capturing stunning views of Mt Wellington and the Derwent River, extensive balconies for outdoor living with raised garden beds and shaded areas, state of the art engineering ensuring each resident has maximum privacy and their room is a quiet haven.
Residents, families and staff were consulted extensively during the ten-month planning and design phase and most of the feedback received has been incorporated into the new building.
Maynard is more than just a building. We have spent a lot of thought, time and money on the grounds and outdoor spaces surrounding Maynard. Every room has a view and for those rooms facing inwards, we have designed individual courtyards, a bog garden and riverbed feature, tiered ferneries, landscaped garden banks and a 'therapy courtyard' to encourage residents into the outdoor environment.
We have incorporated 'family friendly' outdoor areas particularly for young people and children. New areas include basketball hoops and half courts, children's play equipment and large safe areas for small children to run, play and make a noise. All areas include outdoor seating areas for residents to sit and enjoy being with their grand and great grand children in an environment where young people feel comfortable.
The building is named in honour of Max Maynard who has been on the Glenview Board of management since 1982 and was Board Chairman from 1984-2000. Max's dedication and commitment to Glenview over such a long period of time has duly been honoured with our most spectacular addition at Glenview.
Residents who have recently moved into our new Maynard Wing are enjoying start of the art facilities, a great view and the pleasure of their brand new, private rooms.
There are lots of opportunities to share with others, too.
Or wander out onto the balcony and take in the view across to the Derwent River and Mount Direction.
